Real Madrid have shown that they are defensively vulnerable and coming up against the best attack in world football, it could be their downfall. Midfield anchor

Real Madrid are desperately in need of a specialist holding midfielder.

Zidane has often sacrificed the balance in his midfield to accommodate two of his best central midfielders – Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.

toni-kroos

Los Blancos have been exposed in the midfield time and again because of the lack of an anchor and it will be a huge problem against the likes of Messi and Iniesta.

Games of this magnitude are often won or lost in the midfield and Real Madrid certainly lacks in that department.

Former Premier League referees have urged the Football Association to Consider Introducing Video Cameras

♠ Posted by Unknown in ,

Former Premier League referees have urged the Football Association to Consider Introducing Video Cameras - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Referees in professional sports are usually the scapegoats when things go wrong because the decisions that they make have an impact on the result of the games that they officiate. As a matter of fact, referees have such an impact on games that online sportsbook soccer odds for teams change depending on the person officiating the game.

Referees in England are apparently tired of being blamed for things they do not have any control over and are appealing to the English Football Association to consider allowing them to use video cameras during grassroot games.

While other sports have been using instant replay to reduce the amount of human error that goes on during games, soccer referees want to use video cameras to record what happens on the pitch during games.

There has been an epidemic of referee abuse in soccer for some time and the referees want to use the video cameras to fight back. In 2009, Clive Steward, who had been officiating matches for 30 years, was attacked after officiating an under-13 match. Steward believes having a camera would have served as a deterrent and could have prevented his attackers from assaulting him.

The video cameras that the referees have in mind are similar to the body cams used by law enforcement officials. The cameras are about the same size as a mobile phone and they can be easily attached to the front of their uniform without obstructing the officials.

Mike Cairns, who spent 15 years officiating games in the Premier League before returning to the grassroots said he feels the video cameras would be a major step forward. Cairns said allowing refs to wear video cameras during games is an excellent idea because it allows them to provide evidence whenever they have to explain what happened during a game.

Cairns also believes that the players and team officials will be on their best behavior if they know the referee is recording them. In the interview, Cairns also said he would be happy to be one of the volunteers that take part in the trial runs.

Earlier this year, Cairns submitted his match notebook and other evidence to the Somerset FA to support his claim of verbal abuse during a game he officiated. The player’s appeal was upheld after he told the FA that his comments were aimed at his manager.

Cairns, along with other referees said it is difficult to get witnesses to come forward in most of the abuse cases and feels being able to use a camera will make it easier for referees to prove their abuse cases.

England’s former head of refereeing Keith Hackett said that the body cameras could also be useful in training referees, which would improve officiating.

While referees are excited about the potential of being able to wear cameras during game, the biggest obstacle they currently face is the expenses associated with it. Right now, body cameras are expensive, fortunately, due to technological advancements, the cameras will soon be cheaper.

Once the price of the cameras drop, referees believe the FA will seriously consider making them available to referees because the FA has been trying to eliminate referee abuse for the past decade and the cameras will definitely help their cause.

Club provides important update regarding Man Utd fan favourite - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Former England footballer and Manchester United legend Gary Neville has been sacked after a disappointing few months at Valencia.

Neville has appointed as the manager of the Spanish giants back in December and has only managed to win 10 out of his 28 games in charge.

The England coach was not a popular figure amongst the fans and his long-term future at Mestalla was always a doubt.

“Valencia Football Club have today parted company with Gary Neville as Head Coach,” the club said in a statement. “After careful consideration, the Club have decided to make a change with the best interests of the Valencia CF moving forward this season. We thank Gary for his work at Valencia and wish him the best in the future. The Club have, today, appointed Pako Ayestaran as Head Coach until the end of the season.”

Under Neville, Valencia crashed to a humiliating 7-0 defeat against the Spanish champions Barcelona. His last game was the 2-0 defeat against Celta Vigo, right before the international break.

Neville is still a part of the England coaching setup and was present on the bench for England’s international fixtures against Germany and Netherlands over the last few days.

He is expected to continue in his role with England now and will head to the Euros with Roy Hodgson’s team.

Former Liverpool assistant manager Pako Ayestaran, 53, will take charge of Valencia for the rest of the season.

Valencia are currently 14th in the table, six points clear of the relegation zone with eight games remaining.

Liverpool transfer blow, Klopp's £35m target joining Arsenal this summer - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Arsenal are all set to complete the £35m signing of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The tenacious 23-year-old central midfielder has been a target for Liverpool and Manchester City as well. The likes of Bayern Munich have been monitoring his progress.

It appears that Arsenal have beaten their rivals to their signing of the Switzerland international. The highly talented midfielder will move to Emirates this summer according to Bild.

Arsenal have suffered from injuries to their midfield every season and it seems Arsene Wenger is ready to address that with a big-money signing this summer.

The likes of Wilshere, Rosicky are consistently injured every season and it has hurt Arsenal’s title chances during crucial stages of the season time and again.

Furthermore, Xhaka will also add much-needed steel to Arsenal’s midfield alongside Coquelin.

The Bundesliga star can operate as the central midfielder as well as a defensive midfielder and would be an outstanding addition to Wenger’s side.

Xhaka has previously joked about joining Arsenal in the summer and according to Bild, the moved is all but sealed.

Versatile forward agrees stunning Liverpool transfer, 3-year-deal agreed

Versatile forward agrees stunning Liverpool transfer, 3-year-deal agreed - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Liverpool striker Jerome Sinclair has agreed to leave the Anfield giants this summer and will join Watford.

The highly talented young striker is out of contract in June and will join the Premier League outfit on a free transfer. However, Liverpool are set to receive a fee through tribunal because of the player’s age (under 21).

Watford submitted a bid of around 3 million pounds in January for the talented frontman, but Liverpool rejected the bid and started to initiate talks for a contract extension.

It seems that the English forward is not too keen on staying at Anfield beyond this summer. Sinclair has reportedly agreed a 3-year-deal with Watford.

Sinclair is represented by Aidy Ward, the agent who orchestrated Raheem Sterling’s move to Manchester City last season.

Sinclair is one of the best youth players at Liverpool and the fans will certainly be disappointed with him leaving them. Liverpool could also lose the likes of Jordan Rossiter this summer.

His departure is a bit of surprise considering how good Jurgen Klopp is at developing young players. Furthermore, joining Watford is a massive step down for Sinclair.

The young forward scored his first senior goal for Liverpool against Exeter this season and is also the youngest ever debutant in the history of the club. Sinclair has attracted a lot of attention from other Premier League sides due to his explosive style of play. He can also operate out wide as well as a central striker.

Real Madrid and Barcelona stars hit form ahead of El Clasico

♠ Posted by Unknown in ,

Real Madrid and Barcelona stars hit form ahead of El Clasico - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

It’s El Clasico time. The most anticipated fixture for the people in Spain, and also for every football fans across the globe in general. Since the last meeting between the two sides, when Barcelona won 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid have gently slipped away from the title race, and have a new manager in place.

The upcoming el clasico, therefore, is one of the more low key ones in recent years, where both the sides have nothing but pride to play for. At best, Madrid can take a sweet revenge while Atletico can reduce the gap at the top a bit, although it won’t stop Barcelona from becoming the inevitable La Liga champions.

The timing of this fixture can play a big role here. In a massive game like this, players and fans are usually all charged up, and everyone expect a tough contest in the middle. The fixture is therefore physically very demanding for the players. And it could hamper Barcelona’s preparations for the two legged Champions League quarter-final tie with fellow La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.

The international break also came at the wrong time. It often disrupts the momentum of a winning side, and a high profile match following just after the break can be very tricky.

Luckily, for both Real Madrid and Barcelona, their top players have performed well during the international break. They look in good shape and will return to the club with a positive frame of mind.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner as Portugal defeated Belgium 1-0 on Tuesday. Likewise Toni Kroos was on scoresheet against Italy, as German defeated the Azzurri 4-1; their first time victory by 3 clear goals over the 4 times World Champions since 1939. James Rodriguez produced a superb performance for his country in Colombia’s 3-1 win over Ecuador, but suffered an injury in the second half, which could rule him out of the Barcelona tie.

Arda Turan continued his impressive form with his country, as Turkey produced a comeback to see off Austria 2-1 in Vienna. Luis Suarez was superb in both the matches for Uruguay as well. The former Liverpool star scored in the 2-2 draw against Brazil, and had set up Edinson Cavani’s winner in Uruguay’s victory over Peru.

Lionel Messi scored his 50th goal for Argentina, after he scored from penalty in 2-0 win over Bolivia in a qualifier for the 2018 World Cup. The Argentine is closing on breaking Gabriel Batistuta’s goal record, with him being just six goals short of former Fiorentina striker. Neymar had a poor game against Uruguay and has received a strong criticism in the Brazilian press for his performance. However, his fellow countryman and Barcelona teammate Dani Alves scored a brilliant goal as Brazil drew 2-2 against Paraguay in the World Cup qualifier.

Mourinho requests Man Utd to sign defensive rock, club ready to pay €35m - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Manchester United are eyeing up a move for the Colombian defender Jeison Murillo.

The Inter Milan defender is one of the best centre-backs in Serie A right now and has been linked with a move away this summer.

It appears that Manchester United are ready to strengthen their defence this season.

According to reports from Colombia, Jose Mourinho is expected to take over at Manchester United at the end of this season and has requested the club to strengthen their centre back options with the signing of Jeison Murillo.

The report also states that Manchester United are ready to pay up to 35 million Euros for the South American defender this summer.

Argentine defender Marcos Rojo has been linked with an exit from Old Trafford and it seems Murillo has been identified as an upgrade. Rojo failed to make his mark under the current Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal and has spent most of his time playing out of position or on the bench.

Murillo would be a stunning addition to the Old Trafford outfit. The 23-year-old is also a target for Bayern Munich. However, Guardiola’s exit could change things now.
