Chelsea close to January deal for winger, contract clause triggered - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Chelsea are set to recall Christian Atsu this January after a failed loan spell at Bournemouth.

The highly rated 23-year-old winger was loaned out to Eddie Howe’s side this summer, but Atsu has failed to impress at his new club.

Atsu has made just two appearances for the Cherries so far this season and the Premier League champions are keen to end his loan spell due to the lack of match action.

According to ESPN, Atsu will return to Chelsea soon due to a clause present in his loan contract which allows the parent club to bring him back if he does not get enough first team action.

The report also states that Chelsea are likely to loan him out again and there are several clubs interested in the winger’s services.

Atsu is the second player who is set to return after a failed loan spell. Patrick Bamford is also on his way back to Chelsea after the lack of opportunities at Crystal Palace.

Man United agree deal for 22 year old, player glad to move - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Manchester United have agreed on a deal to send goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on loan to Preston for 28 days.

According to ESPN, the 28 day loan period could be extended.

The 22-year-old was thought to be frustrated with the lack of first-team opportunities at Old Trafford and will now return to Deepdale in search of regular football.

Johnstone was a big hit at Preston during his previous loan spell and kept 12 clean sheets for the Championship outfit in 25 appearances last season.

Preston have confirmed the move on the official Twitter account.

Johnstone claimed that he is glad to return to Preston and is looking forward to playing regularly in a competitive league like the Championship.

The young shot-stopper is behind the likes of De Gea and Romero in the pecking order and a loan move to a side where he can play regular football is a wise decision.

For a player of his age, it is imperative to play regularly and continue his development.

Valencia host Real Madrid in a thrilling La Liga encounter this Sunday and both sides will have a lot to play for in a must win clash at the Mestalla.

Real Madrid’s title credentials will be put to a stern test this weekend when they take on Valencia. The home side have struggled in the league this season but their home form has been outstanding.

Los Blancos have already dropped enough points this season and are already playing catch up with fierce rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid for the top spot. Another defeat could be a major blow for them as far as the title race is concerned.

Rafa Benitez’s side have struggled against the top sides away from home (defeats against Villarreal and Sevilla earlier this season) and Valencia will look at this game as a perfect opportunity to turn their season around.

The La Liga outfit have failed to win any of their last five league games and are under tremendous pressure after an impressive season last year.

Valencia need to win against Real Madrid if they are to keep their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League alive.

It is a similar scenario for Rafa Benitez, who cannot afford to lose another game. The Spaniard’s job is on the line and it is a must win game for both sides.

Chelsea travel to Selhurst Park for a crunch Premier League encounter against Crystal Palace this weekend.

After two back to back draws against Watford and Manchester United, another tough test awaits Guus Hiddink. The newly appointed Chelsea manager will be up against one of the in-form teams in the league right now in Crystal Palace.

Alan Pardew’s men have started the season well and are in the mix for European qualification this season. The Eagles have been outstanding against the top teams, home and away.

Palace’s philosophy of sitting deep and breaking away with pace and power will make life extremely difficult for a struggling Chelsea side.

Although the Blues have seemingly improved since Mourinho’s departure, they are still lacking in consistency and creativity. Coming up against a deep-defending side like Palace, the Blues will have to be at their best to score goals and then be careful to avoid powerful counter attacks.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea Team News

Alan Pardew has confirmed that the home side will be without Sako, Gayle, Wickham, Bolasie and Cabaye.

As for Chelsea, Guus Hiddink claimed that Falcao, Remy and Cahill are doubts for Palace game.

However Cahill’s injury is not serious and the player has an outside chance of making it to the squad. Further, the Dutchman also confirmed that Fabregas has trained without the problem.

Finally, Diego Costa is expected to be back in the starting lineup after serving his one-game suspension.

Manchester City stepping up interest in Schalke’s Leroy Sane

♠ Posted by Unknown in ,

Manchester City stepping up interest in Schalke’s Leroy Sane - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Manchester City have stepped up their interest in Germany international forward Leroy Sane, according to reports in the Guardian. The Sky Blues have been on Sane’s trail since December 2013 but have now upped the ante in their pursuit of the Schalke star but would hope to pay less than the €40m (£32m) the German club are holding out for.

Sane has been in impressive form this season, scoring five goals and assisting another five in all competitions as he made his national team debut against France in November. The 19-year-old is one of the most highly rated teenagers around, and a summer move to Eastlands is more likely than a January transfer.

City’s sporting director, Txiki Begiristain, is hoping to seal the deal in the winter but a summer move looks more realistic. Also given the forward only recently signed a new deal at Schalke in July 2015 that will keep him at the club till 2019, City’s chances of getting their prime target for cheap look very slim.

Moreover, when Manchester United paid an initial £36m last summer to Monaco to acquire the services of Anthony Martial, it set the standards for the price of a young up and coming talent who recently became a full international. And going by those standards, Schalke are hoping to get as much money as possible from the sale of Sane, who is valued by the club at £32m.

Begiristain and City are considered to be in pole position to sign Sane because of the high valuation of the player. Real Madrid are also interested and have scouted the player, while Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are also mooted as the youngster’s potential suitors. But few teams could match the financial clout of City, and the fact Sane is regarded as City’s prime target means he will be moving to Manchester sooner or later.

Liverpool transfers: Huge bid for £22.1m rated Inter defender, Sirigu targeted

Liverpool transfers: Huge bid for £22.1m rated Inter defender, Sirigu targeted - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

With the advent of the new year bringing with it the keys to the winter transfer window, the rumour mill has been in its elements in anticipation of the upcoming month of silly season. Liverpool are a club with a need for quite a lot of reinforcements, and according to latest reports, the Reds are lining up moves for Italians or Italy-based players over the course of the coming month.

Murillo the big money target

Inter Milan’s Jeison Murillo has been one of the rocks in the Nerazzurri’s defence this season, and has been a reason why Roberto Mancini’s side find themselves atop Serie A halfway into the season. And as is the norm these days, Liverpool aren’t far off from being linked with almost anybody on the planet, more so if he is a defensive reinforcement.

According to Spanish sources Fichajes, the 23-year-old Murillo could be the subject of a big money bid from the Reds in the coming days. The Colombian would cost as much as £22.1m, but with Liverpool failing to strike a balance between defence and attack this season, and injuries plaguing the club’s centre-backs at various points this season, a move could be on the cards.

Reds make Sirigu contact

One area that everyone feels Liverpool need upgrading is the goalkeeper but Simon Mignolet happened to finish 2015 as the Premier League’s highest clean sheet collector after last night’s 1-0 win over Sunderland. However, goalkeepers continue to be linked with the Reds and PSG rebel Salvatore Sirigu is the one name popping up.

And according to Tuttosport, Jurgen Klopp needs competition for Mignolet and who better than Italy international Sirigu, who is unsettled at PSG ahead of next summer’s Euro 2016 after being overtaken by Kevin Trapp as the number one goalkeeper in Paris. Mignolet’s long term future at Liverpool is apparently at doubt.

Another defender eyed by the Reds

A lot of defenders have been reportedly on the Reds’ radar for their January shopping, and Juventus’ versatile Martin Caceres has already been offered a deal by Liverpool, according to Don Balon.

Caceres has also been linked with Liverpool umpteen number of times in the past, but at 28, and with an expiring contract and not a regular, the chances of this one going through is slim. The Uruguayan’s CV is impressive though, having played for Barcelona, Sevilla and Juventus in his career.

Everton set to sign young Swiss forward in January

Everton set to sign young Swiss forward in January - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Fresh from being humbled by a brace from Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri on Monday at home, Everton are set to sign a Swiss of their own as it is understood the Toffees are lining up a move for Shani Tarashaj from Swiss club Grasshopper.

The 20-year-old Tarashaj is one of the most highly-rated young talents in Swiss football and Everton have offered the Swiss Under-21 international a four-and-a-half year deal to bring him to Goodison Park. The player’s advisers have been in Liverpool for the past few days to discuss terms and talks are at an advanced stage.

According to reports, Grasshopper will likely have Tarashaj back in Zurich on loan should they agree a fee with Everton. The move is part of Everton’s need to shore up their attacking ranks following Steven Naismith’s impending departure from the club in January. Naismith has struggled for regular playing time and is set to move to Norwich City.

Tarashaj can play as a secondary striker or an attacking midfielder and has scored eight goals in 18 games for Grasshopper this season. He has helped his club to second in the Swiss Super League, 10 points behind leaders Basel. Everton manager Roberto Martinez is a fan of the youngster, and regards him as a creative player who can flourish at the Goodison.

The Toffees will have to cough up a sizeable amount of cash to seal the deal for Tarashaj as the player recently signed a new contract at Grasshopper in September which tied him to the club until 2019.

Should Arsenal move for Stephan El Shaarawy?

Should Arsenal move for Stephan El Shaarawy? - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

Once AC Milan’s great hope, Stephan El Shaarawy is at a crossroads in his career. The Italian Egyptian was once labelled as Italian football’s next best thing, but events that have unfolded in his career since have been the worst possible reflection of his wonderkid status.

El Shaarawy is 23 now, and could soon be playing with a third club in the space of a year. Il Pharaone’s contract situation at French principality club Monaco means the forward is edging towards the end of his loan deal at the club. According to the terms of his loan move, Monaco are compelled to buy him outright at €14m should he play in 25 games.

And the fact El Shaarawy has already played 24 games for Monaco means the French club will be forced to pay up if he plays another game. Monaco have apparently already told Milan they don’t want to buy El Shaarawy, a fact which puts the player in limbo. The ex-Genoa man has been part of the national team set up recently, and an abrupt end to his season will be a blow ahead of next summer’s Euro 2016.

This is where Arsenal could sneak in to get a player of a certain European pedigree for little money. Arsenal are atop the Premier League table, but have been searching for the right blend of attack to finish the numerous chances created per game by the otherworldly Mesut Ozil.

El Shaarawy is a needle player, who is effective in small spaces and has low centre of gravity. The fact Theo Walcott has been missing presentable chances this season owing to his poor touches at crucial moments and places makes a case for Arsene Wenger to go for El Shaarawy.

The Italy international has pace to burn, and his tricky feet could be the latest unsettler for Premier League defences as Wenger’s men bid for their first title in 12 years. A winger with an eye for goal and considerable European pedigree, Arsenal could do a lot worse than not consider the open door of El Shaarawy.

27 goals and 14 assists in 102 appearances during his time at Milan prove his immense potential, and at his age, things haven’t gone too out of hand. And we all know how good Mr. Wenger is with young talents.

Celebrating Messi’s 500 games for Barcelona: A joyride of trophies, goals & records

Celebrating Messi’s 500 games for Barcelona: A joyride of trophies, goals & records - originally posted on Soccerlens.com

There is simply no par in world football when Lionel Messi is concerned, and when the Argentine played his 500th game for Barcelona yesterday, it offered us mortals a chance to turn back the pages of a wonderfully illustrious career of a modern day footballing God and once again gasp in awe at his achievements on the pitch.

Barcelona rode past Real Betis 4-0 at the Camp Nou last night in Messi’s 500th appearance for the club, a gift close to perfection for the perfect footballer ever. Messi has had a career full of silverware and records, and at 28, is set to carry on for many more years. Messi’s milestone 500th appearance for the Catalan club saw him notch his 425th goal for the club, a stat enough to quantify his importance to the club he joined as a 13-year-old.

Messi has now joined the ranks of Xavi, Carles Puyol, Andres Iniesta, Migueli and Victor Valdes in the elite group of players who have played 500 games for Barcelona, but la Pulga is arguably the greatest of them all. Even without considering the fact he is the only non-Spaniard in the above group, Messi’s influence in what has been the greatest period in Barcelona’s history arguably makes him the best player to wear the red and blue of the club.

Here are ten of the best Messi stats from his 500 games at the club, and an attempt to emphasise his importance to Barcelona over the years, as if it isn’t a known fact.

1. Messi has scored 425 goals in his 500 Barcelona appearances, giving him a rate of 0.85 goals per game. That’s like scoring 85 goals in 100 games, which is utterly phenomenal.

2. When Messi scores, Barcelona rarely lose. In total Messi has scored in 267 club matches. When he has done so, Barcelona have only lost on nine occasions (3.4 per cent).

3. Messi’s best goalscoring season came in 2011/12. The Argentina international topped La Liga’s scoring charts with 50 goals and netted 14 in the Champions League to also top those standings, eventually reaching a total of 73 strikes in all competitions.

4. Messi can score anywhere. La Pulga has scored 236 of his goals at Camp Nou, 174 of his strikes at away grounds and an additional 14 at neutral venues.

5. The 500 matches Messi has played have come under five coaches. He made the most appearances under Pep Guardiola (219) and the least under Gerardo Martino (46).

6. Messi has tasted victory in 350 of his 500 Barcelona games to date. He has enjoyed most success under current boss Luis Enrique, winning 77 percent of games (58 from 75) under the Asturian. His worst record was under compatriot Tata Martino (29 from 46, 63 percent).

7. In the 500 matches, Messi has played a total of 39760 minutes. That’s equivalent of 442 full 90 minute matches.

8. Messi’s appearances have helped Barcelona to an astonishing 26 trophies. He has won La Liga seven times, four Champions League titles, three Copa del Reys, six Spanish Super Cups, three Uefa Super Cups and also sealed a third Club World Cup by scoring in the 2015 final against River Plate, his 499th appearance for the club. That means Messi has averaged a trophy every 19 games during his Barcelona career.

9. As well as his goalscoring feats, Messi has also provided a total of 159 assists for team-mates during his 500 games.

10. Messi has enjoyed himself most at the home of rivals Real Madrid, scoring 12 goals at the Santiago Bernabeu. His second-most successful away venue is the Vicente Calderon – home to Atletico Madrid – where he has netted 11 times.

Lionel-Messi

The diminutive Messi is set to bag his fifth Ballon d’Or in a few days, an unprecedented feat in football. The fact that Messi has transcended the limits of football during his career spanning 11 years makes it harder to believe he has still someway to go before hanging his illustrious boots. With his 500 game milestone, Messi has added another feather to his Barca cap. A true genius of the beautiful game, Messi is to be enjoyed till he lasts, and he has many more miles to travel.
